  • 1 lb Italian sausage
  • 28 oz marinara sauce
  • 1 cup cottage cheese Can substitute with ricotta for richer texture.
  • 1 cup fresh basil Chopped.
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese Chop rather than shred for melty pockets.
  • 12 oz ziti pasta Cooked until al dente.
  • 1 tsp salt To taste.
  • 1 tsp pepper To taste.
  • 1 tbsp olive oil For cooking the sausage.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, brown the Italian sausage over medium heat. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  4. Add marinara sauce and bring to a simmer. Mix in the cooked ziti, cottage cheese, chopped basil, and half of the mozzarella. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a casserole dish and top with the remaining mozzarella.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  2. Let cool slightly before serving, and enjoy!

Notes

Pairs well with a crisp side salad and a sprinkle of red pepper flakes for extra kick. Leftovers can be kept in the fridge for about 3-5 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
